Wells Cathedral School is delighted to announce another year of excellent A-level results, with pupils achieving outstanding outcomes across a variety of subjects.

These results are a testament to the dedication and hard work of the pupils, as well as the unwavering support and guidance from teaching staff.

Pupils have been celebrating their success across a range of subjects, from sciences to the humanities and to the creative arts. Among many highlights were 100% of Photography pupils gaining an A* grade, 83% of Art pupils achieving grades A* to B, 91% of our Geography pupils earning grades A* to B, 87% of Biology pupils securing grades A* to B and 85% Further Maths pupils achieving A* to B grades.

Although results nationally have returned to the pre-pandemic 2019 levels, Wells pupils have improved on the results of their 2019 peer group. Overall, the percentage of pupils achieving grades A* to C stands at an impressive 83.9%, with over 32% of pupils achieving A*-A grades, both of which are significantly above the national average in England, which demonstrates the consistent academic success seen across all subjects.

Pupils are now going on to study at a variety of institutions with around 70% of pupils heading to a Russell Group University or Music Conservatoire (with many of these on substantial scholarships). Destinations include Oxford, Cambridge, Durham, UCL, Cardiff, Royal College of Music and Royal Academy of Music, with pupils studying a range of subjects from Medicine to Music, and Environmental Science to Criminology. Others are heading straight off into their chosen career, including with the Armed Forces.

Alastair Tighe, Head Master, said: "I'm delighted to be able to celebrate the successes of our departing Upper Sixth pupils as they receive their A level results. As always, I am so proud of the way they have worked hard, with the support of family and teachers, to achieve such great results and secure such great post-school options. But these have done so while still engaging so committedly and successfully in all the other areas of education offered to them while at Wells, including in Music, Sport, Drama, Outdoor Learning and so much more - and that's been wonderful to see. I am delighted that they leave us as well-rounded, successful and aspiring young people and wish them all the very best for the future."
