Blue School students defy challenges with stellar A Level success
Students at The Blue School in Wells are celebrating an outstanding set of A Level and BTEC results this year, with many overcoming significant challenges to achieve their success.
In the wake of the pandemic and ongoing issues with crumbling concrete affecting the school buildings, this year's cohort has shown remarkable resilience. Over half of the nearly 450 exam entries were awarded one of the top grades, and almost 80% of all entries achieved a grade C or above.
Most students have secured their first-choice university places or are moving forward into their chosen careers. Success stories include placements at some of the country's most competitive universities and a diverse range of career paths, including medicine, engineering, graphic design, ancient history, drama, and international relations.
Headteacher Mark Woodlock praised the students for their perseverance: "I am immensely proud of the achievements of all of our students this year. That is true for both the individuals themselves and for the teachers and school staff who have supported them. We hope these results will give them the best platform for the next steps in their education and careers."
He added: "They have proven themselves to be an exemplary group of role models, tackling the many challenges they've faced head-on. We have no doubt they will go on to make a positive impact in the future."
Woodlock also highlighted the important role of the local community in supporting the students during their time at the school: "These results are the product of the close partnership between ourselves and the local community. We thank everyone who has supported these students, especially in the difficult last few years. The community should be incredibly proud of its students and the school that serves Wells and the surrounding area."
