Open Garden in aid of the National Garden Scheme
MILTON LODGE, Old Bristol Road, Wells
Leisure
UNTIL Sunday 5th June

Milton lodge has been opening for 60 years this year thanks to the generosity of the Tudway Quilter family. A brass plaque in gratitude of the money they have donated to the charities we support was presented to Simon Tudway Quilter at his NGS opening in May.
Architectural terraces have been transformed from sloping land with a profusion of plants capitalising on the views of Wells Cathedral and the Vale of Avalon. A Grade II terraced garden was restored to its former glory by the current owner's parents who moved here in 1960.
The orchard was replaced with a collection of ornamental trees. herbaceous borders and blooming roses, incl. Gertrude Jekyll who flourishes next to well tended lawns.
There is a serene, relaxing atmosphere within the garden following the ravages of two World Wars. Cross over the Old Bristol Rd to the 7 acre woodland garden, The Combe, which is a natural peaceful contrast to the formal garden of Milton Lodge.
Home made teas and plants for sale. Entry for adults is £5 cash on the day or by pre-booking tickets at www.ngs.org.uk.
The third and last opening in aid of The National Garden Scheme is on Sunday 3 July (2-5). If you own a garden you would like to open to help the National Garden Scheme raise over £3 million pounds raised annually and donated to the charities we support, please contact Judith Stanford initially by email: [email protected]; for more information.
