Djembe Drum Circle

Where

Wookey Church Hall

When

16 Sep 2021

UNTIL Thursday 16 September

A drum circle/workshop for both complete beginners and more seasoned djembe players to create some magic together!

Djembes (Jem-Bays) are hand drums of West African origin, and are very popular across much of the world. Group drumming brings many benefits to our health and well-being on all levels.

Join me to connect with rhythm, to learn techniques and bring the different 'voices' from the djembe drum, to play rhythm patterns, and to 'weave' with other drummers and create something quite magical.

We'll take it at a gentle pace (definitely no pressure!), building skills and confidence while having fun in a relaxed environment.

For grown-ups of all ages - for those new to djembe drumming, as well as more seasoned players to brush up their skills and have fun with their drum!

No previous musical or drumming experience is necessary, and if you think you have 'no rhythm' then know that you do! You just need to rediscover it, and then enjoy the bliss that reaches your soul.

Djembe drums are available to hire for the session. I have lightweight contemporary djembe drums which are suitable for vegans, and will have been cleaned prior to your use.

If you have your own djembe (or similar hand drum) to bring, then simply book a ticket for 'admission only'.

This is an indoor 'in person' drum circle with Covid safety measures in place, so that we can all attend happily and with confidence.

Extra cleaning will have been carried out, and there will be plenty of space to maintain a respectful distance from each other.

The doors will be open ten minutes beforehand, ready to begin at 1.30pm. There is a very limited amount of car parking at the venue, however you can park on Church Road (or nearby) and then stroll through the church yard to the hall.

What do you need to bring? A bright smile and a bagful of good vibes!

A drink may also be a good idea (the kitchen will not be available), and of course your drum - unless you have booked to hire one. Face coverings are not required, although you may of course choose to wear one.

Looking forward to drumming with you!

N.B. It's been a tough time for us all recently, in different ways for different folks. Many of us are feeling quite anxious, especially when it comes to doing something new, in an unfamiliar place, with people not yet known to them. Please be assured that this will be a gentle and supportive environment; my aim is always for drummers to leave feeling happy and energised yet relaxed. There is no pressure, no expectation, and the ethos is one of mutual respect.

WARNING!!! Drumming can be highly addictive and may lead to an increase in motivation, creativity, connection, inner peace and tranquillity. Spontaneous outbursts of joy and laughter are a common side effect. Participation is entirely at your own risk.
