WELLS Chamber of Commerce and Tourism has suggested that the skate park near Waitrose be moved to Wells Recreation Ground to create room for more parking spaces.

The chamber's comments come in response to Mendip District Council's draft car park strategy for the district for 2018-2022, which has been circulated to key stakeholders such as town councils and chambers of commerce for their comments before it is considered by the council's Cabinet on May 21.

Help protect a child's smile

Somerset County Council is encouraging anyone who supports children or young people in any way to complete a free, e-learning module to learn how to protect children's smiles.

The children's and young people oral health module is the second module from Somerset County Council's Learning Centre released this year – the first aims to protect adult oral health.

One fire appliance from Shepton Mallet was sent to a report of a vehicle on fire at the above location.
On arrival crews confirmed that the car was well alight.  The vehicle was 50% damaged by fire and was extinguished using one hose reel and small tools.  First aid was administered to one person with slight injuries.
