Somerset County Council has been helping utility companies work together to keep disruption to a minimum during a major scheme of essential works along the A371 this autumn.
The A371 Wells Road between Draycott and Rodney Stoke has been subject to several water leaks and gas repairs in recent times and mains renewal works by Wales & West Utilities and Bristol Water cannot be delayed any longer.

Two fire appliances from Wells and Cheddar plus the Rescue Tender from Glastonbury were mobilised to a report of a two vehicle road traffic collision with a person trapped in one of the vehicles.
When the first crew arrived on scene the incident commander confirmed that one vehicle was on all four wheels and the other was on its side against a wall. There were three walking wounded casualties plus one person trapped in the car that was on its side. The crew immediately got to work to attempt to stabilise the vehicle using specialist stabilising equipment.
The fire crew liaised with the Heli Med doctor to decide on the best way to extricate the casualty from the vehicle.
The fire crews began to remove the side of the vehicle to get access to the casualty and requested a third appliance from Somerton for additional person power.
The casualty was extricated from the vehicle using three sets of hydraulic rescue equipment, a LGV working platform, stabilising equipment and small tools. In total, four casualties were treated by ambulance crews. The scene was made safe before the Fire Service left.
