Wells City sit second in the league following a tough 2-2 draw with Cheddar on Tuesday (October 22).

Wells took the lead after only five minutes, when a mix up at the back saw Dale Hunt feed a sublime ball through the back four and Harry Foster first time slid it through the keeper's legs.

After 16 minutes, great link up play between Craig Herrod and Hunt saw a last ditch block by Sam King to deny Herrod from six yards.

On 22 minutes, Cheddar's Craig Laird got a free header from a corner but he put it over from 10 yards.

Wells doubled their advantage on 26 minutes when Dale Hunt linked up with Foster and then out of nowhere Hunt unleashed a 25 yard screamer into the top far corner giving Greg Turner in the Cheddar goal no chance.

After 28 minutes, a great ball from Ross Padfield from the left was well met by Harvey Hadrill but his header went just over from 15 yards.

Cheddar pulled a goal back on 32 minutes when Wells didn't clear their lines and a great ball in by King was met by Adam Jones who planted a great header to the far corner to make it 2-1.

On 39 minutes and after some Cheddar pressure, Adam Wright blasted over on the half volley from 15 yards.

After 43 minutes, Hunt played a through ball for Harry Foster but he could only drag his half volley wide from 20 yards.

Just before half time, a great turn and shot by King was met by an equally brilliant Josh Bond save making the score Wells City 2-1 Cheddar at the break.

On 50 minutes, Wells gave Wright too much space but his effort from the edge of the box hit the bar and went over.

After 57 minutes, a ball in from Robbie Maggs from the left found Laird but his header crept just wide.

A mishit cross by Callum Ham on 65 minutes was well tipped over by Bond after quickly adjusting.

Cheddar equalised on 67 minutes as Wells didn't clear their lines again and as the ball fell to Ben Amghar he sliced the ball straight into Wright's path, who turned Jack Spence and even though Bond got a hand to the shot, it was not enough to keep it out.

The final chance of the game was on 89 minutes when a Herrod free kick was glanced wide by Hunt.

Wells were well in control and the better team for the opening 30 minutes but from then on Cheddar were the team in the ascendancy and will feel as though they should have got all three points.

It was a hard earned draw for Wells who know they can and will play better but they now currently sit second in the league. Next up for Wells is an away trip to Almondsbury tomorrow (October 26).
