Wells 31 – Stothert & Pitt 0

This was another impressive five point win for Wells and for the first time since March 2018 that they have whitewashed their opponents. It also allowed them to leapfrog their visitors from Bath and move up to seventh in the league table.

Wells got off to an impressive start, Aaron Cook making the interception after just two and a half minutes and then having enough pace to get over the line from thirty metres out. For nearly all of the remainder of the half, the game was a bit even steven! The visitors backs looked dangerous when they had the ball, but Wells were more solid up front. Three strikes against the head speakks for itself, although the lineout was a bit more of a lottery. Half way through the half Wells introduced another of their Colts to first team rugby, Corey Baker coming on for his debut in the backrow.

Half time was approaching when Jordan Krause went over after another typical huge ground eating burst from Al Payne who was in fine form throughout the game and a constant thorn in the oppositions side. With Aaron Cook converting, Wells led by twelve points to nil at the interval.

Young Leo Hamblin was now introduced to the fray for his debut with the weather conditions getting worse. Heavy rain and a driving wind were a feature and the ground was getting heavier and heavier. Mike Dimaline stretched the lead after six minutes of the half. By now, Wells were on almost constant attack and both of their centres got in on the scoring act. Sam Garrett following a quickly taken penalty and then Will Greenman with the bonus point try after ever increasing pressure. Finally, Al Knight, after missing out last week, got back into his scoring mode with a try at the end. Aaron Cook had added two conversions to make the day memorable for the home supporters, especially the English ones!

Many thanks are due to Eric Thornborough of Protek Products who kindly sponsored the pre-match lunch.
