THE organisers of Wells Theatre Festival are looking for volunteers to help run the event.

In return for their support, volunteers can attend performances for free and be in with a good chance of meeting many of the performers, including internationally acclaimed mind reader Colin Cloud, who will be bringing his sell out show to the festival.

Free concerts at new festival

WELLS will be welcoming several international youth ensembles to perform a number of free concerts around the city at the inaugural WOWFest: Wells Orchestral Weekend in July.

The festival will open with a ceremony at the Cathedral.

It will include a short introduction from patron Charles Hazlewood and a joint performance of the March from Arthur Bliss's orchestral suite Things to Come.

The music tells the story of Bliss's vision of the lead up to the Second World War, and the performance will feature some of the finest young musicians from the UK and Germany perform together in harmony.

A brownie from North Petherton has won a poster competition, with a design encouraging more people to consider fostering in Somerset.

Cllr Frances Nicholson said: "I'd like to offer my heartfelt congratulations to Grace for her winning artwork and to all the young people across Somerset who took part in the competition; we had many fantastic entries. It is so encouraging to see young people embracing the idea of 'helping others in their community'. We hope others will be inspired to support 'Fostering in Somerset' in the same way."

One Fire Engine from Wells, was sent to a report of 3 people and a dog stuck in a lift. On arrival crews confirmed there were 3 people and a dog stuck and released them safely using small tools.

Location: Bakers Lane, Chilcompton, Wells

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were called to reports of a shed fire at the above location.  One fire appliance from Shepton Mallet, one from Wells and one from Castle Carey were mobilised to this incident. 
Upon arrival crews confirmed one shed fire, crews extinguished using two hose reel jets.  The shed was completely destroyed by fire and slight damage  was also caused to patio doors and pergula.  The cause is under investigation.

THE Old Deanery in Wells and The Rib car park are to be sold.

An announcement by the diocese says that the decision was made earlier this week by members of the Bishop's Council, the Trustees of the Diocesan Board of Finance.

This group is responsible for the strategic and financial operations of the organisation, which supports the 182 church schools and 560 churches, their clergy, leaders and congregations across Somerset.
