A historic Wells property could soon return to use as a private home under new plans submitted by Wells Cathedral School.
Brock House, a Grade II listed building at 6 New Street in Wells, has been used as a boarding house under a C2 residential institution designation since 2017. The school has now applied to revert the property to C3 use as a single dwelling.
Located near Wells Cathedral and within the city's conservation area, the mid‑18th century building is noted for its original sash windows, slate roof, and early 19th‑century railings. No external or internal alterations are proposed under the new application.
Wells Cathedral School stated it no longer requires Brock House for boarding and intends to return the property to its previous use as a family home. Mendip District Council approved its original change of use in March 2017 under application number 2016/2396/FUL.
The current application (reference number not yet confirmed) is being considered by Somerset Council. A decision date has not yet been confirmed.
