Wells Food Festival returns for 13th year with new street‑food zone

Wells Food Festival is making a comeback on Sunday 12 October (10.30am–4.30pm), showcasing Somerset's food and farming heritage.
The free event will span the city's medieval core — from Market Place and Bishop's Palace Moat to the recreation ground — featuring an artisan market along High Street into Sadler's Street. A new street‑food and market zone will open through Penniless Porch in front of Wells Cathedral.
Jon Abbott, festival director, said: "Visitors are always struck by the diversity of food and drink on offer from talented and passionate producers who need our support more than ever before." He noted that attendance hit over 15,000 last year and demand for stalls continues to rise.
Headline sponsor Charlie Bigham's returns for its sixth year, planning vintage photo displays, upcycled trays and a selection of locally produced dishes.
The Recreation Ground will host a "Food for Thought" marquee tackling sustainability, innovation and community food issues. New features include Little Joe's Kitchen, a pop‑up cookery school with free workshops for all ages. Simon Gray will lead sessions creating salmon boats for children and "School of Fish" Thai green curry mussels workshops for teens and adults. The Children's Zone will again offer trails and activities in partnership with local nurseries, schools and scout groups.
