Petfood, lasers and ledgers: Wells jobs you can actually apply for

Wells presents diverse job listings, from defense roles and petcare process operators to an optometrist and accounts coordinator.

Whether you're updating the CV in earnest or just noseying through vacancies between cups of tea, Wells has served up a small but mighty mix this week. From defence roles that sound like Bond back-up to shift work that smells faintly of kibble, here are the listings worth a second look.

There's clearly something in the water (or under the radar) around here, as three of this week's top-paying roles sit firmly in the defence safety zone.

First up, the WOME Safety & Integration Senior Consultant role promises £65k–£80k for keeping tabs on munitions safety. A hybrid or remote post - ideal if your idea of field work includes a reliable broadband connection and fewer actual fields.

A step down in seniority (but still firmly above average pay) is the WOME Safety & Integration Consultant at £50k–£60k. If you like acronyms, protocols, and reminding people not to blow things up by accident, this could be your moment.

And rounding out the safety squad is the Nuclear Safety Assurance Consultant. It's home-based, which is probably for the best when your clients deal in things that go boom slowly.

Mars Petcare is hiring Process Operators in both Ditcheat and Wells. The gig pays £28k–£31.5k with bonuses and rotating shifts, helping to churn out whatever flavour they're feeding cats this season. It's proper shift work - reliable, physical, with just enough machinery to make it feel official.

The Head of Operational Technology sounds like someone who knows which wires not to cut. You'd be leading a team working on distributed energy systems-smart networks, cyber compliance, mentoring junior techies. No salary listed, but safe to assume it pays enough to make sense of the acronyms.

The Wells Vision Express is after a fully-fledged Optometrist, and they're offering up to £79k (plus a car allowance and medical cover) to get one. If you're a qualified eye expert who likes the sound of flexible working and very expensive lens kits, you'll want to give this one a look - ideally through your own high-end specs.

Finally, one for the spreadsheet savants - JLA Ltd needs an Accounts and Credit Control Co-ordinator. It's £28k and includes career development, though the main task seems to be reminding people to pay their bills. Good for someone who gets a quiet thrill from tidy ledgers and polite-but-firm email tone.

Still looking? The Wells Nub News jobs board has more roles popping up each week - from care to catering, retail to remote work. Worth bookmarking if you like to browse with a cuppa and plan your next move without leaving the sofa.
