Wells has seen house prices rise over the past year despite falls in neighbouring towns, according to new figures from the Land Registry.

The average price of a home in Wells in the 12 months to July 2025 was £377,391.70, up from £370,078.60 the previous year. That represents an annual increase of 1.98%.

By contrast, Glastonbury (BA6) recorded a fall of almost 6%, with the average price dropping from £353,369.90 to £332,479.20. Street (BA16) also saw a slight decline of 0.66%, with average prices moving from £292,095.10 to £290,155.10.

The biggest local rise was in Shepton Mallet (BA4), where average prices climbed by 9.21% over the year, from £326,512.90 to £356,576.40.

Across Somerset, Wedmore (BS28) was the most expensive area to buy a home, with an average price of £605,789. The cheapest was Yeovil (BA21), where homes sold for an average of £243,508.

The figures highlight Wells as one of the few parts of Mendip to see growth in the past 12 months, as prices in several nearby areas fell.
