Wells is hosting a striking fundraiser this autumn as part of efforts to rebuild the city's skatepark, with a public display of 50 artist‑designed skateboard decks showing at Wells Cathedral and LOAF café throughout October.
The decks, all one‑off pieces of art, span oils, graffiti, pop art and hand lettering, and will be auctioned online until 30 November to raise money for the Wells Skatepark Project. The display is part of Wells Art Contemporary (WAC) and will move to Heart of the Tribe Gallery in Glastonbury from 6–25 November.
World‑renowned skate photographer Skin Phillips has curated 20 standout decks for show in the Cathedral, while contributions include work by Shelley Dyer‑Gibbins, graffiti artist Rowdy, illustrator Liam O'Farrell, fairground artist Joby Carter, Blue School students, and Edgar Phillips, Artist in Residence at the Portway Annexe.
The project was sparked by a conversation between Mayor of Wells Louis Agabani and Paddy O'Hagan of WAC, aiming to support a safe, creative space for young people. "This is a chance to own a completely unique piece of art and support a fantastic cause," said Louis.
Bidding is open now at galabid.com/skatewells.
