The volunteers of Millstream Workshop have sold horseshoe and other metal artwork for Christmas and serviced and fixed bikes to raise money for the Wells Foodbank since 2021. Total donations now exceed £8,300 since the community group formed.
Now these volunteers concentrate on recycling donated bikes to continue the fundraising for the Foodbank.
Some numbers:
o 31 bikes serviced bikes have been supplied ready for use to people who can make good use of them but aren't in a position to buy them. These have been donated via the YMCA, Wells Foodbank, Keward House and healthcare contacts.
o 103 bikes sold so far at an average price of £50, this helps to fund the parts and other consumables required to fix bikes and has been a great money raiser for the Wells Foodbank.
o 210 bikes have been donated.
"Some bikes are simply not economic to repair," said James Duckenfield of Millstream Workshop, "so usable parts removed and weighed in at the scrapyard to minimise wastage and still gain something for the project. A large percentage of the donated bikes that are repaired would have been taken to the tip anyway and we are proud of our efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle."
Their upcoming Bike Sale will be at the Wookey Hub café and shop in Wookey on Saturday 6th December at 9.30am. They have a delivery-miles Emu Roam Crossbar Electric Bike 14.5Ah which cost £1,149.99 available for £500 with a 50+ mile range.
"We are also hoping to have a selection of kids/smaller bikes as Christmas is coming," said James.
