Wells offers practical job roles this week, from administrative and merchandising to HGV technicians and care positions.
Wells offers practical job roles this week, from administrative and merchandising to HGV technicians and care positions.

Wells isn't shouting about flashy roles this week — but for those who like admin with purpose or shelves over checkouts, there's a decent mix. From the quiet steadiness of the almshouses to the field merch roles that skip the weekend slog, these jobs won't set your LinkedIn alight but might just fit your life nicely.

The City of Wells Almshouses are after an Administrative Officer who can juggle diary entries and housing queries with equal grace. It's part-time, pro-rata up to £25k, and rooted in a charity that's been supporting locals since before spreadsheets were a thing.

Fancy a bit of retail without the till? Try a Field Merchandiser role around Wells. It's permanent, weekday-only, and pays £12.40/hr. You'll be adjusting displays and tidying shelves rather than clocking in at a checkout.

One for the hands-on types: an Installer role (somewhere near Wells, though they're cagey on details) offers full or part-time work, with earnings up to £50k. If you can handle a measuring tape and fancy setting your own pace, it could be a tidy fit.

A short drive away, Evercreech is calling all early risers with a thing for diesel engines — this HGV Technician job offers up to £46,425.60 for 45 hours a week. It's full-time, weekday-only, and comes with part-time flexibility if you're looking to downshift.

If you're looking for something a little looser, delivering with Uber Eats in and around Ansford might hit the spot. Pick your own hours, grab your wheels, and earn what you can between other commitments. Just don't forget the insulated bag.

There's a solid office-based role over at Mars Petcare in Castle Cary for a Maintenance Planner. If SAP, TPM, and preventative maintenance make sense to you, the pay's decent (£39,600 to £45,400), and the perks come with more than just the odd freebie treat.

Night owls might consider this Night Care Assistant gig in Glastonbury. You'll need to be kind, reliable and ready to work through the wee hours. The pay's between £12.60 and £13.25/hr and the team sounds solid.

Prefer your shifts in daylight? The same home is hiring a Care Assistant for day work — same hourly rate, similar role, and equally rewarding if you're patient, practical, and people-minded.

Cooking up something a bit more stable, there's a Sous Chef job at Millfield School in Street. You'll be salaried at £30k, with no shouty head chefs, free food, and some decent perks for your trouble.

If you're more about blackboards than chopping boards, you could try this Maths Lecturer position with UCS College Group. £36,202 salary, full-time or part-time considered, and a rare chance to explain percentages to teenagers without losing your mind.

Over at Prezzo in Street, they're on the hunt for a Chef who can handle the heat. It's a temp gig, paying £12.50–£13/hr plus tronc, and you'll be working through a structured training path, one pan at a time.

And if you're happier front of house than behind the stove, this Front Of House Supervisor job in Street might suit. It's full-time, around £12.93/hr, and ideal for someone who can herd staff, handle diners and smile under pressure.

Plenty more where that came from over on the jobs board — worth a scroll if you're hunting for something local, livable, and not laced with corporate nonsense.
