Millfield Music - Cathedral Concert
Wells Cathedral
Music
UNTIL Tuesday 21st March

On Tuesday 21st March, Millfield Music Department will host and perform its annual Community Choral Project, an evening of varied and uplifting choral music, both old and new.
Rutter's epic Requiem forms the highlight of an exciting programme that also features Alexander L'Estrange's irreverent 'Zadok Rules – Hallelujah!' and Haydn's riotous Insanæ et Vanæ Curæ. The Millfield Orchestra will also perform the 'Pas de Deux' from Tchaikovsky's famous ballet, the Nutcracker.
The project represents the culmination of six months' hard work from many young singers and members of the Millfield Community Choir, who will combine to form a two-hundred strong choir. The sublime Requiem features a diverse range of style and character, from an ominous 'Agnus Dei' to a celebratory and exultant 'Sanctus', and will feature soprano solos from students Tansy, Poppy and Jenny.
'Zadok Rules- Hallelujah!' offers a musical whirlwind tour through England's monarchs, inspired by royal music through the ages. The piece is a glorious homage to the work of G. F. Handel, featuring excerpts from Music for the Royal Fireworks, Messiah, and Water Music, culminating in the titular coronation anthem Zadok the Priest. Along with the community choir, this piece will be sung by children from Baltonsborough CE VC Primary School, Brookside Academy, Millfield Prep School and West Pennard C of E Primary School. The Community Choral Project marks the first time that these schools have joined together, in a marvellous celebration ahead of the Coronation of King Charles III. This collaborative musical event in the glorious setting of Wells Cathedral is not to be missed.
