"Celebrating the Windrush Pioneers and those that followed"
Tuesday 18th July 2.30pm-4.30pm Wells Cathedral Education Room
Join Wells Cathedral and Somerset African Caribbean Network to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the arrival of HMT Empire Windrush at Tilbury docks Essex in 1948, which brought more than 800 passengers from the Caribbean.
Through talks, film clips and discussion we learn about the experiences of the Windrush generation and their descendants, and what it means to the African Caribbean Community and British society as a whole.
Judith Desbonne, a Somerset resident will show a film recording that provides some personal insight into what finding a new home was like. In conversation with her mother Janet we learn about her experience of coming to Britain from the Caribbean in the early 1960's
Wells Cathedral Education Department will show 'Windrush and Me' a film created in partnership with Devon Development Education Windrush Group, that provides a brief history of the Windrush and a personal account of the Windrush scandal.
There will be opportunities for discussion. We hope you can celebrate with us.
