One fire appliance from Wells and two from Shepton Mallet attended a report of a fire in a domestic kitchen. On arrival crews confirmed the kitchen heavily smoke logged, and entered the property with breathing apparatus.
The fire was found to be out on arrival, but involving the electrics of a fridge. Crews removed the fridge from the property and ventilated the kitchen. The fire was accidental, and duty of care was left with the occupants.
SIXTEEN knives have so been surrendered at Wells Police Station during the Operation Sceptre knife amnesty.
The knife amnesty is part of a national initiative to tackle knife crime, and a knife surrender bin will remain in place at the police station until the amnesty ends on July 31.
WELLS residents will notice some significant changes when a new police station is built in the city.
But in future the public are more likely to see police officers working on laptops in cafes around the city under a programme to get them out of the office and into the community.
THE Ram's Kebabs van could soon be back in business in Wells.
The van, run by Ramazan Ibrahim, had previously operated at the hand car wash site on the opposite side of Princes Road until having to move to make way for the new units being taken by Pets Corner and Domino's.

WELLS guitarist Jed Hampson is about to embark on a major tour with music sensations Ross From Friends.
It's more than former Wells Blue School student Jed could have dreamed of when he was growing up in the area and playing in local bands.
THE heatwave that has swept the nation since June has had a very revealing effect on the Gardens of The Bishop's Palace in Wells.
A clear L-shape is now evident on one side of the lawn, which, when viewed in conjunction with John Carter's 1790s' Map of Wells, is clearly the outline of a former Dutch-style canal feature, thought to have been laid out in the 17th century.
These Gardens were thought to have been redesigned in the 1820s by Bishop Law who preferred the Picturesque style which was popular in Victorian times.
WELLS has become the first officially recognised Plastic Free community in Somerset.
The announcement that their efforts have paid off with the award of Plastic Free status was made on July 23 by the group leading the campaign against plastic pollution, Surfers Against Sewage.
"Somerset has its first Plastic Free Communities Approved location.
Congratulations Wells!" it said.

The Fire Service were called to a report of a saucepan on fire which was believed to be out within a property at the above location. One fire appliance from Shepton Mallet was mobilised to this incident. On arrival crews requested the attendance of an Ambulance due to person suffering from smoke inhalation.
This was a fire involving a pan which had been left unattended whilst cooking. Crews used a thermal imaging camera to check the roof space within the property.
Chip pan fire out on arrival. 50% of kitchen damaged due to smoke. One elderly occupant removed from property by neighbours prior to the arrival of the fire service. Crews used one thermal imaging camera, small tools and a section of a triple extension ladder. Oxygen therapy administered to casualty in a neighbours property by the Fire Service. Casualty in hands of paramedics and being conveyed to hospital with non life threatening injuries.
The cause of the fire was accidental.
