In one of their best performances for many years, Wells City triumphed 7-0 away to Corsham on Saturday, with five of the goals coming in a remarkable first 11 minutes.

They got the goal-scoring going in the very first minutes as straight from kick off Craig Herrod won the ball in Corsham's defensive third, he found Alex Camm through the middle who delicately lifted the ball over the central defender and into the path of Harry Foster who slotted the ball past the keeper and into the far right corner. There was a possibility of an offside but with no VAR present, Wells lead 1-0.

Slight of hand

Ten tries, lots of open play, indeed plenty to keep the crowd entertained when Wells beat Weston-super-Mare 2nds 39-24 on Saturday at the Portway Ground.

Wells eased into a 15-point lead after 20 minutes, thanks to an Aaron Cook penalty, Ben Knight with a scintillating break from a ruck scorching over for the first try of the game after 15 minutes and then Oskar White, back from injury, got the first of his two.

It was a good performance from Wells City on Saturday and they should never have lost but they didn't take their chances and saw Ben Amghar sent off in a 2-0 defeat to Wincanton Town.

In only the second minute, a quick Alex Camm breakaway freed Harry Foster down the right but with Craig Herrod in acres of space in the middle of the Wincanton box Foster failed to pick him out instead putting the ball out for a goal kick.

There are days when it seems that the gods are against you, with Wells having just such a day yesterday (September 21) when they travelled to top of the table Minehead Barbarians.

Last minute confusion with the shirts, no one available to drive the bus and having to make eight changes to the starting line up. On top of that, they had to play the first half up the slope, into a fresh breeze.
