A Wells woman is desperately trying to raise £20,000 for urgent surgery to save her mum's life after UK doctors said there was nothing more they could do.
Siiara Nakhmetova's mum, Fatima, has been battling ovarian cancer for nearly 15 years. But her condition has now reached a critical stage, with tumours spreading through her abdomen and no curative treatment left on the NHS.
The family has found one surgeon in Turkey willing to attempt a high-risk operation to remove the tumours and ease the pressure on her organs. The bill is £32,000 — and the family has already paid £28,000 using savings and an emergency loan to secure the surgery in time.
Now they're asking for help to raise the final £20,000 to cover the operation, rehab and care costs.
Siiara said: "My mum is the heart of our family. She's the kindest person I know. We've never asked for help before — but now we have no choice."
Her sibling Arzu, a taxi driver in Shepton Mallet, also posted an appeal, saying: "This is the hardest thing I've ever had to write. Without surgery, I may lose her."
Over £4,000 has already been raised on GoFundMe and you can donate here: Help Fatima Nakhmetova get urgent cancer surgery
