By Laura Linham 1st Apr 2026
Wells voters in St Thomas' Ward are being called back to the ballot box after a parish council by-election was triggered for one vacant seat.
The poll is due to take place on Thursday, 7 May 2026 — but only if the contest is fought. A formal Notice of Election has now been published for one parish councillor to be elected in Wells St Thomas' Ward.
Anyone hoping to stand has until 4 pm on Thursday, 9 April to get their nomination papers in. Those papers must be delivered to Somerset Council Electoral Services at Cannards Grave Road in Shepton Mallet.
There is not long for voters either. Anyone not yet registered has until midnight on Monday, 20 April to sign up.
The deadline for postal vote applications is 5 pm on Tuesday, 21 April. Proxy vote applications must be in by 5 pm on Wednesday, 29 April.
Emergency proxy applications can be made up to 5 pm on polling day itself, Thursday, 7 May.
