Wells Classic Motorcycle Club's Tortoise and Hare run returns this month for its 15th annual outing.

The fundraising event takes place over the weekend of Saturday, 18 July, and Sunday, 19 July, and is open to motorcycles and scooters of all ages, within the club's categories. Money raised will go to Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance and Freewheelers.

The main event takes place on Sunday, 19 July, with Tortoise and Hare routes point-marshalled and signed. There is also an optional Saturday ride-out through the countryside.

Riders will sign on at Wells Rugby Club, BA5 2FB, from 7.45 am to 9.15 am, with breakfast and drinks available. The runs will be flagged off by the Mayor at 10 am.

The Tortoise Run is about 85 miles and is for machines of unlimited capacity up to 1980, small-capacity machines including scooters up to 250cc, and year 2000-plus limited modern machines.

The Hare Run is about 120 miles and is for machines over 250cc. The Snail Route is about 55 miles and is aimed at veterans and very low-powered machines.

The ride includes a coffee stop en route at Farrington Gurney Memorial Hall before returning to Wells Rugby Club. Food, cake, presentations and awards will follow in the afternoon, including the Mayor's Choice of bike and various class awards.

Entry is £16 for a solo rider or £20 with pillion when booked in advance, including the coffee stop, afternoon tea, cake and brochure. On-the-day entry is £22 for a solo rider or £25 with pillion, with all fees to be paid with the entry form.
