A renowned Wells-based expert in dramatherapy and play therapy has launched a new online course aimed at helping parents and professionals support neurodiverse children through imaginative play.

Dr Sue Jennings, a pioneer in the field, developed Neuro-Dramatic-Play® (NDP), an attachment-based therapy designed to help children with autism, neurodiversity challenges, and those who have experienced trauma, neglect or abuse. Her work has gained international recognition for its focus on using play to build essential life skills such as communication, empathy and resilience.

Dr Jennings, who has been based in Wells for many years, has dedicated her career to finding new ways to help children process emotions and navigate challenges.

She describes NDP as more than just play. "It's a powerful way to support mental and emotional well-being," she said. "In a world full of screens and schedules, play remains a vital part of child development."

The latest addition to her portfolio is the "Whistlestop" version of her NDP training, a two-hour live online course aimed at making the therapy accessible and affordable for parents, carers, teachers, and child therapists. Participants will gain practical skills to manage meltdowns, recognise developmental milestones in play, and use therapeutic storytelling to support children's needs.

Dr Jennings added: "The Whistlestop Neuro-Dramatic-Play live course offers an accessible, invaluable and practical insight into the life-changing benefits of this unique therapeutic practice."

The Whistlestop course builds on Dr Jennings' advanced diploma training, which has been available since 2011. The condensed version aims to reach a wider audience, giving people the chance to explore the benefits of NDP without committing to a full-length course.

The course will run on three dates in December, with each session including theory, practical workshops, and opportunities for discussion. Participants will also receive a CPD certificate upon completion.
