Wells swan Grace lays eggs at Bishop’s Palace nest
By Laura Linham 16th Mar 2026
Eggs have been spotted in Grace's nest at the Bishop's Palace & Gardens in Wells.
The attraction shared the update on social media, saying its "Swan Whisperer", Moira, had seen eggs in the nest.
The Palace said Grace is now incubating, meaning staff do not yet know how many eggs there are. It said a further update would be given once that becomes clear.
In a post shared online, the Bishop's Palace & Gardens said: "Egg-citing news from Grace's nest! Our Swan Whisperer, Moira, has spotted eggs in Grace's nest!"
It added: "Grace is busy incubating, so we're not sure how many there are just yet, but we'll keep you updated as soon as we know."
The Palace swans are among Wells' best-known attractions. The tradition of swans on the moat dates back to the 19th century, with the birds famously trained to ring a bell at the Gatehouse for food. Grace and Gabriel, the current pair, arrived at the Palace in 2019 and have since become a familiar sight for visitors and residents.
The Palace has invited people to follow developments on its Swan Cam as incubation continues.
