By Laura Linham   9th Nov 2025

Wells honoured its fallen with services, a parade, and moments of silence, uniting all generations in gratitude and remembrance.
Wells honoured its fallen with services, a parade, and moments of silence, uniting all generations in gratitude and remembrance.

Wells came together today to remember those who gave their lives in service, with ceremonies and tributes held across the city.

The day began with a service at St Cuthbert's Church, where veterans, local dignitaries, Scouts, Guides, and cadet forces joined residents in solemn reflection.

The church bells rang out as wreaths were placed at the memorial, each one a quiet tribute to lives lost and sacrifices made.

Following the service, a parade made its way through the city streets to the Harry Patch Memorial, led by members of the Royal British Legion. Crowds gathered along the route despite the chill, applauding the veterans and young people who marched together in unity and respect.

At 11am, Wells fell silent. The hum of the city faded as heads bowed in remembrance. Two minutes of stillness linked generations — from those who remember wartime to children learning its legacy for the first time.

Wreaths were laid by representatives of the City Council, emergency services, community groups, and schools, each carrying messages of gratitude and remembrance.

The commemoration continued at the Cathedral, where prayers and music echoed through the ancient stone, marking the close of a day steeped in reflection and pride.

For a moment, Wells stood still — united in remembrance, and grateful for the peace so dearly won.
