Wells skatepark smashes £170k as £50k grant takes project closer to reality
The Wells Skatepark Project has landed a massive £50,000 grant from a local charity — firing the campaign past the £170,000 mark and giving fresh momentum to plans for a permanent, all‑inclusive skatepark serving Wells, Street, Shepton, Glastonbury and beyond.
The fundraising blitz, driven by local families, riders and businesses, has caught the eye of stars and sponsors alike. Actor Joseph Millson (The Last Kingdom, Casino Royale) called it "life-changing" and voiced support in a video backing the campaign.
With a £500k goal in sight, the community effort has seen everything from burger fundraisers to brainy board sales. Nine-year-old skater Ewan, founder of Braincase Boards, is donating £5 from every board sold. Local firms backing the push include St Andrews Press, Yonder Brewing, Sunlit Solar and more.
Bev Smith, a trustee of the Wells Skatepark Project, said: "This shows exactly what can happen when a community pulls together. Now we need to keep going and hit that £200k milestone next."
