Wells reveals new Christmas lights and 200-stall market
By Laura Linham 16th Oct 2026
New Christmas lights will replace the existing decorations on Wells High Street and Broad Street this year. The city council has also announced a two-day festive market on Saturday, 12 December, and Sunday, 13 December, with more than 200 artisan stalls.
Warm white icicle lights will replace the current Christmas motifs, with installation scheduled for 25 and 26 November. The council is working with businesses on access and electricity supplies for the displays.
The Christmas market will stretch from the bottom of Sadler Street through the Market Place, High Street, Queen Street and Broad Street. Live music and entertainment are planned alongside the stalls, with the weekend giving shoppers a chance to visit the city's independent businesses too.
Families will also be able to follow a Christmas trail around participating shops. An interactive map will help visitors find market traders and businesses across the city centre.
The council says this year's arrangements are the first step in a longer-term plan to develop Christmas in Wells.
Further details about the trail and other festive activities will be announced through its website and social media channels.
The Christmas markets are listed to run from 9am to 3pm on both days. More information is available through the Wells City Council website.
