At a glittering awards ceremony held at the private view of Wells Art Contemporary in Wells Cathedral on Friday 9 October, Wells artist Heather Jane Wallace was the winner of the Jane Bowe Memorial Award. This prize is given in memory of the late Jane Bowe, a Wells artist herself, by her husband Martin Bowe and is awarded to an artist from Somerset whose work is selected for the WAC show. Mr Bowe ran ProBusiness in Chamberlain Street for many years with a great record of pro bono support for local charities.
Heather Jane Wallace, co-founder of Heritage Courtyard Gallery & Studios in Sadler St, Wells, received the award from Paddy O'Hagan, Chair of Wells Art Contemporary, for her painting A Bacchanal before the storm (after Nicholas Poussin).
Myroslava Pavliuchenko, from Somerton, who is just at the start of her university career, was awarded the Somerset Art Works Mentoring Prize for her ceramic work Strawberry, which was much admired by visitors to the show.
Wells Art Contemporary continues until 7 November at Wells Cathedral.
