Wells has been named one of the UK's top staycation destinations, ranking third in a list of the best off-season holiday spots.

The list, compiled by holidaycottages.co.uk, highlights Wells and Somerset as prime locations for travellers looking to escape the crowds.

The New Forest and the Peak District took first and second places respectively, with Somerset rounding out the top three. Wells was described by holidaycottages.co.uk as a "treasure trove of heritage and history," with its famous Bishop's Palace and Wells Cathedral named as standout attractions.

A representative from the holiday lettings site explained: "Despite being one of the smallest cities in the UK, Wells packs a punch with its unique moated Bishop's Palace and magnificent cathedral, which is currently ranked the number one attraction in Wells on Tripadvisor."

Wells' cinematic fame was also highlighted, being the filming location for hits like 'Dungeons and Dragons' and 'Hot Fuzz.'

Joby Mussell, Chief Commercial Officer at holidaycottages.co.uk, added: "Travelling out of season can reap many rewards. First and foremost, the cost tends to be cheaper, and with so many incredible UK destinations to explore, you can have an unforgettable experience no matter what time of year you visit."

Other staycation spots in the top 10 include the Isle of Wight, Devon, and Kent
