Journalist and broadcaster Kate Adie has officially opened a new Dogs Trust charity shop in Wells. The new store is on High Street in a Grade II-listed building and is now trading from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Saturday.

Adie, a long-time dog lover, cut the ribbon at the opening and said she was pleased to support the charity's latest venture in the city.

She said: "I'm delighted to be here to officially open this new shop in Wells for Dogs Trust.

"It's fantastic to see a space where the community can come together, support dogs in need and make a real difference.

"I hope everyone will visit, explore what's on offer and help this charity continue its amazing work."

Dogs Trust said the Wells store is its 33rd charity shop. The charity added that the shop is accepting donations of pre-loved clothing, accessories and bric-a-brac during opening hours.

Nick Kelsey, retail area manager for Dogs Trust, said: "We're thrilled to be opening our new shop in Wells and celebrating this exciting milestone for our charity as we become part of such a vibrant and supportive community.

"This launch wouldn't have been possible without the hard work and dedication of our amazing staff, volunteers, and supporters, and we're so grateful to everyone who has helped bring the store to life."

He added that the opening had been "unprecedented", with around 80 customers queuing along the High Street to get in.

The charity is also looking for volunteers to join the Wells team. Anyone interested is being encouraged to enquire in store or email [email protected].

The new shop opens in a busy week for the city, with community groups and organisers also promoting local events including Wells Carnival seeks sponsors from local businesses and Wells Cathedral invites all to Easter services.
