Wells crime figures rise with 98 offences in June

Wells City recorded 98 crimes in June, up from 57 in May, according to the latest monthly police statistics.

The figures show violent crime was the largest category in June, with 35 offences recorded. Anti-social behaviour was the next highest category, with 23 reports, followed by public order offences at 13 and shoplifting at 11.

June's total was 41 higher than the previous month. In May, Wells City recorded 57 crimes, including 21 violent crimes, nine anti-social behaviour offences and nine shoplifting offences.

The June figures also included seven criminal damage and arson offences, two possession of weapons offences, two robberies, two vehicle crimes, one burglary, one bicycle theft and one other crime.

Compared with May, the number of violent crimes rose from 21 to 35, while anti-social behaviour increased from nine to 23. Shoplifting also rose slightly, from nine offences in May to 11 in June.

Public order offences increased from five in May to 13 in June. Criminal damage and arson rose from four to seven, while vehicle crime increased from one to two.

Burglary remained at one recorded offence in both months. June also included two robberies and two possession of weapons offences, categories which were not listed in the May breakdown supplied.

Police note that monthly crime statistics can take up to 30 days for the previous month's figures to become available.
