Wells City Council has approved its budget for 2026–27, confirming a 1.98% rise to the local council tax precept — equal to 6p a week for a typical Band D household.

The precept is the share of council tax that funds the work of the Town Council. Unlike the main portion of council tax, which pays for services like schools, roads and rubbish collection, the precept is set and kept locally to cover things like parks, community events, public toilets and civic buildings. Each parish and town council sets its own amount every year.

Councillors voted unanimously to adopt the proposed budget, which had been recommended by the Finance Committee.

No objections were raised before the vote.
