Wells council staff have been given a crash course in how to support people living with dementia — and make sure no one falls through the cracks when they need help most.

The free session was delivered by Denise Denis, chair of the Wells Dementia Action Alliance, who praised the council for taking the issue seriously.

"It was very encouraging," she said. "It opened a conversation about how and when staff might meet situations where someone living with dementia or their carers seek advice — and that they can signpost them to the right support."

Staff were given practical tips on how to respond sensitively when they meet someone affected by dementia while out and about in the community.

They were also pointed towards a dedicated local support site: www.wellsdementia.org.uk/find-help, which offers advice and guidance for people living with dementia and their families.

The Wells Dementia Action Alliance has been working with local organisations to make the city more dementia-friendly — helping ensure no one faces it alone.
