Proud day for Wells as mayor hands out awards to city’s unsung heroes

Volunteers who go above and beyond for Wells have been honoured by the city's mayor in a special ceremony.
Wells Mayor Councillor Jasmine Browne handed out seven awards during a Civic Service of Thanksgiving at St Cuthbert's Church — celebrating local people who give their time and energy to help others.
Among those recognised were Flight Lieutenant Marshall-Smith and Corporal Colwill of the 1955 City of Wells Squadron Air Cadets, who were named Mayor's Cadets for their service to the city.
Shane Leigh of the 5th/7th Wells Scouts was praised for his Outstanding Service to Wells, while St John Ambulance Cadets Toby Duckenfield and George Pickford were both singled out for their dedication to helping others — Toby winning the Junior Outstanding Service Award and George receiving the Community Service Award.
Abigail Fricker of the 5th/7th Wells Cubs section was also recognised with a Community Service Award.
And finally, Colin Price, the Mayor's Mace Bearer, received the Extra Mile Award — a nod to his commitment and contribution to civic life in Wells.
The awards were presented in front of family, friends, councillors and members of the public in a service celebrating community spirit at its very best.
