Wells Bishop's Palace plans rooftop solar panels

Solar panels could be installed on part of the Bishop's Palace in Wells under plans submitted to Somerset Council.
Two applications have been lodged for the installation of solar photovoltaic panels on the west-facing inner roof slope of the Jocelin Range at the Palace in Market Place.
The applications, references 2026/1548/FUL and 2026/1549/LBC, are currently awaiting decisions.
One application seeks planning permission for the work, while the second is for listed building consent.
The Bishop's Palace has been home to the Bishops of Bath and Wells for around 800 years and forms part of one of the city's best-known historic sites. The complex includes the medieval Palace buildings, chapel, ruined Great Hall, moat and gardens.
The proposed panels would be positioned on the inner roof slope of the Jocelin Range rather than on an outward-facing elevation.
No decision has yet been made on either application.
The applications can be followed through Somerset Council's planning system using references 2026/1548/FUL and 2026/1549/LBC.
