Residents in Wells and surrounding areas are encouraged to utilise the Slinky bus service, Somerset’s flexible demand-responsive transport option.

The service is open to anyone without access to a regular bus route, making it an invaluable resource for rural communities, particularly for reaching shops, medical appointments, social gatherings, or college.

To access Slinky, residents need to register online, and then book their journey with at least 24-hour notice. As of 1 September, even car owners can use the Slinky bus, providing an affordable alternative to driving. Fares are reduced by 50% for Concessionary Bus Pass holders and children aged 5-16, with free rides for children under 5.

Councillor Richard Wilkins, Somerset Council’s Lead Member for Transport and Digital, highlighted the value of Slinky for local communities, saying, “Slinky is an incredibly useful option for people in Somerset. It is vital if you don’t have transport, but now it also offers a flexible, affordable alternative for people who don’t want to use the car, or for younger people who just want to get around more easily without having to rely on a parent.”

In Wells, the Slinky bus helps residents of all ages stay connected and mobile. To register, visit Register for Slinky - Somerset Council or call 0300 123 2224 for more information.
