Wells charity handed £1,000 boost thanks to Movement for Good campaign

A Wells-based charity has been handed a financial boost after being picked for a national award aimed at supporting good causes.
Promise Works, which supports vulnerable young people across Somerset through long-term mentoring, has been awarded £1,000 by the Benefact Group's Movement for Good Awards.
The campaign, now in its seventh year, sees more than £1 million donated to charities across the UK — and this year over 4,300 nominations came from Somerset residents alone.
Promise Works was one of just two Somerset organisations selected in this round, alongside Burnham BMX Club in Burnham-on-Sea.
The donation comes at a time when many small charities are facing rising demand and rising costs.
Mark Hews, group chief executive at Benefact Group, said: We would like to thank every single person who took the time to nominate a good cause. We know that £1,000 can make a huge difference to the incredible work that charities do and we're looking forward to seeing how this financial boost will change lives for the better."
Benefact Group is the UK's third-largest corporate donor to charity, and is itself owned by a charitable trust. All of its available profits are directed to good causes.
Promise Works, based in Wells, pairs volunteer mentors with children and teenagers who are facing difficult life circumstances. Their goal is to offer consistent, long-term support to help young people build resilience and confidence.
The charity has been praised across Somerset for its grassroots approach — and the new funding will help continue that work.
