As winter approaches and the nights draw in, Shepton Mallet residents are being reminded of the 'Street Safe' tool—an online platform designed to tackle violence against women and girls.

The tool allows locals to anonymously report areas where they feel unsafe, whether due to poor lighting, intimidating gatherings, or verbal harassment.

The initiative is part of the government's wider strategy to combat violence and aims to help law enforcement and other agencies focus their resources more effectively.

Residents can provide information about problem spots, giving police valuable insight into where to direct their patrols.

The 'Street Safe' tool also promotes multi-agency efforts to improve community safety, such as the introduction of better lighting in dimly lit areas.

All reports submitted through the platform are anonymous, ensuring the privacy of those who participate. With the early onset of darkness in the winter months, local authorities believe this tool will be increasingly beneficial in helping residents of Wells feel safer in their community.
