In Wells, Mendip Neighbourhood Policing has intensified its efforts to enforce the 20mph speed limit on Chamberlain Street, an area of critical safety concern, particularly for young students.

This speed limit was introduced following a severe accident involving a student who was run over, leading to serious injuries and the need for reconstructive surgery.

Pc Darren Pearson has been actively patrolling the area with a speed camera, focusing on this key street frequented by students from The Blue School and St Joseph's and St Teressa's.

The police have been addressing drivers caught speeding between 25mph and 30mph, providing them with education and safety advice.

This initiative aims to highlight the importance of the 20mph zone and inform drivers about the start and finish points of this speed-restricted area.

The enforcement measures are a part of a broader initiative to ensure the safety of students and other pedestrians in the area.

Drivers found exceeding the 30mph threshold within Chamberlain Street are being stopped and reported to court for speeding offences.
