The smallest city in England is packed with activity this weekend, with a packed programme of events to keep both locals and visitors entertained.
The Wells Food Festival on Sunday is set to be the highlight, transforming the historic Market Place into a hub of local flavours and live entertainment. If you’re looking for something a bit different, head to Ashwick & Oakhill Village Hall on Saturday evening for an astronomical adventure with a talk on studying exoplanets. There's plenty going on, so make sure to explore the best of what Wells has to offer.
Friday, 11th October
Big Arts Weekend kicks off at The Theatre in East Harptree, running from 11th to 21st October. With eight artists exhibiting their work at The Arts Hub, it's a great chance to get a dose of creativity to start your weekend. Click here for more details.

Studio24 celebrates 50 years of ABBA's legendary Eurovision victory. Arrival – The Hits of ABBA promises to have you saying "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme" to every banger they belt out. From Waterloo to Dancing Queen, and all the sequinned jumpsuit anthems in between, this is the tribute act that'll have you feeling like a Super Trouper. Get ready to boogie from 7.30pm!
Saturday, 12th October
In Shepton Mallet, you can drop by the Shepton Mallet Repair Café at the Art Bank between 11 am and 1 pm. It's the perfect opportunity to get your broken items fixed, learn some repair skills, and have a cuppa while supporting a great initiative. Find out more here.
Meanwhile, if you have an interest in astronomy, head to Studying Exoplanets with Giant Telescopes at Ashwick & Oakhill Village Hall at 7 pm. Professional astronomer Ben will be giving insights into his research, and weather permitting, there'll be an observing session after the talk to try and catch a glimpse of the comet C/2023 A3. For those seeking a bit of fun on the rails, the Diesel & Burger Evening is being held at the East Somerset Railway in Cranmore. Enjoy a nostalgic train journey along with a burger and soak in the countryside views.
Sunday, 13th October
Wells Food Festival is back! Running from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm in the Market Place, Palace Moat, and Recreation Ground, this year's festival promises an array of culinary delights from around 200 stalls. You'll find everything from local produce to global street food, as well as workshops, live music, and activities for the whole family. Click here for more.
In Shepton Mallet, the Giant Flea Market at the Bath & West Showground is the place to be for vintage lovers and bargain hunters. With over 250 stalls, there's a huge variety of items on offer, from retro furniture to vintage clothing. The market opens from 9 am until 2 pm, and it's dog-friendly, so feel free to bring along your furry friends. Find out more here.
Also on Sunday, head to Wookey Hole for a special showing of "Wilding" by Wookey Hole Cinema, part of the EcoWeek+ series. The screening starts at 7:30 pm and is a great way to wrap up your weekend while supporting local green initiatives.
