What's On in Wells is brought to you by the Wells Festival of Literature — celebrating words, ideas and the art of storytelling this October.

Wells is hosting more than just Sunday services this week. From charity teas to big‑country festivals nearby, there's reason to get out, stretch your legs, and soak up something new.

Thursday 25 September opens gently with Sounds Joyful at St John's Hub in Glastonbury (10:30am–12pm) — singing, tea, community space. Later that evening, Tom Harding is performing in Street with a dinner-and-show ticket offering the full crooners-to-disco spectrum. Over in Shepton Mallet, Art Bank Introducing is showcasing local young musicians — free, lively, and worth the short drive.

Friday 26 September has local flavours with Macmillan Coffee Morning at Nurture Vet Hospital — always a good excuse for cake. That evening, Bristol Ensemble – Salon Sessions plays at Alhampton, while the Live Music Weekender in Shepton opens with Banco de Gaia and Mike Dennis from 7pm.

Saturday 27 September is the full sprint. The standout is Charlton House Harvest Festival — from noon till late at Montigo Resorts Somerset, this free countryside music festival blends folk, acoustic, sax grooves and garden strolls with street food and estate charm.

Closer to home, the Wells Cathedral Cider & Cheese Festival is on, pairing local cider and cheese under the Cathedral's towers. Elsewhere, Glastonbury's monthly market, Hope Bourne exhibition, Willow Basket Workshop and Quiet Day at Ammerdown offer contrast. The Community Rally in Glastonbury brings activism into the square. Meanwhile, Shepton's Comic Con & Gaming Festival ramps up cosplay and high scores.

Sunday 28 September you can still catch Somerset Open Studios – Shelley Dyer‑Gibbins north of town — mini workshops and original prints on show.

By Tuesday 30 September, the Turkish belly dance class with Nazreen returns (7–8pm in Glastonbury).

So, whether you're after calm, craft or dancefloor chaos, Wells and the surrounding patchwork have plenty going on. Take your pick — just maybe leave time for a nap in between.
