Wells pets are getting their moment in the spotlight as Nurture Vet Hospital prepares for a charity open day with dogs in the ring and cats on camera.

The Wells hospital will host its Charity Dog Show on Saturday, 19 September, from 1 pm to 4 pm, raising money for StreetVet. The charity provides free veterinary care and support for pets belonging to people experiencing homelessness across the UK.

Dog show entry costs £1 per class, with fun categories including Waggiest Tail, Fantastic Rescue, Best Puppy Under 1 Year, Handsome Chap, Lovely Lady and Dog That Looks Most Like Their Owner.

The afternoon will also include cream teas, refreshments and have-a-go agility with Mendip Agility. Visitors can enter a dog, cheer from the sidelines, meet the Nurture team or simply come along for a cream tea while supporting StreetVet.

Nurture said every penny raised from the dog show will go to StreetVet, whose volunteers help keep pets healthy while protecting the bond between owners and their animals.

The Wells hospital is also running a Cat Photography Competition for the summer holidays, with winning photos to be displayed in the waiting room during the open day celebrations.

Cat lovers are being invited to send in photos across classes including Cutest Kitten, Most Magnificent Whiskers, The Ultimate Lazy Cat, Most Unusual Sleeping Spot, Best Action Shot, Cat with the Most Character, Best Human and Cat Friendship Photo, The Purr-fect Portrait, Most Mischievous Cat and Best Cat Loaf.

Winners will be announced on Friday, 11 September. Class winners will each receive a bag of premium cat food donated by Virbac, while overall winners will receive Nurture vouchers worth £100 for first prize, £50 for second prize and £25 for third prize.

Entries for the cat competition should be emailed to [email protected]. Entrants are asked to confirm they are happy for Nurture Vet Hospital to share their photo on Facebook, other social media channels and practice displays as part of the competition and open day celebrations.

The dog show is being supported by class sponsors including Jo Robinson Canine Massage for Waggiest Tail, Wells Bed Shop for Dog the Judge Would Most Like to Take Home, St Andrews Press for Best Puppy Under 1 Year and Virbac for Best in Show.

The open day will be held at Nurture Vet Hospital, Wells, BA5 2HS.
