Local charity Somerset Community Foundation (SCF) is celebrating its 20th anniversary and also marking an incredible milestone, having awarded £20 million of funding to thousands of Somerset's local charities, voluntary groups and social enterprises since 2002.

At a recently held a reception to mark the occasion alongside their supporters, friends and volunteers at The Newt in Somerset, SCF Chief Executive, Justin Sargent, reflected on the last 20 years and said of the milestone: "If you had told me 17 years ago when I joined SCF that we would be here today having awarded £20 million in funding, I'm not sure I would have believed you. But I have always believed in the fundamental ability of communities to change the world for the better. I am tremendously grateful to the supporters, volunteers and charities who, over the last 20 years, have put their trust in us, who have shown the courage to tackle the most pressing challenges in our society, and who have worked in true partnership with us to make Somerset a better place for everyone."

Justin also expressed his gratitude to all the trustees and staff that have been part of the Foundation's 20-year journey.

Guests at the event, which was sponsored by local financial services firm Old Mill, heard inspiring speeches from Glastonbury-based charity Children's World, and Axe Valley Men's Shed - two of the many wonderful groups that SCF have funded over the last 20 years. Children's World, which provides educational and creative experiences for local children, were one of the very first charities to receive a grant from SCF in 2003 and have received tens of thousands of pounds in funding since then.

Somerset Community Foundation is a charity that helps passionate people in Somerset change the world on their doorstep by funding local charities and inspiring local giving and philanthropy. They aim to build
