Somerset Council's summer road maintenance programme is coming to an end, with the final phase of works scheduled near Wells on 17 September.

The A371 Bishops Park Way, East Somerset Way, and Long Street, St Cuthbert Out will be treated between 9am and 3pm, with a convoy and stop/go system in place to manage traffic.

This work is part of Somerset Council's biggest resurfacing project in four years, which has seen over 1,000,000 square metres of road surface dressed across the county. A specialist treatment called 'Kiely Lock' is being applied to lock in loose chippings, helping to extend the life of the roads and prevent potholes from forming.

Although no full road closures are planned, drivers should expect delays due to the traffic management system. Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained throughout the works.

Councillor Richard Wilkins, Somerset Council's Lead Member for Highways, highlighted the importance of the treatments: "By applying surface dressing and treatments, we are not only extending the life of our roads but also preventing costly repairs down the line. It's an essential part of our maintenance strategy."

Motorists are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys on the day.
