Wells Cornish Bakery opening date announced

Cornish Bakery has announced when it will open its new Wells bakery in the former HSBC bank at 1 Market Place.
The independent bakery company will welcome customers from Tuesday, 4 August, with opening hours set at 8 am to 6 pm every day. The site sits in a prominent corner position in Wells Market Place, in the city's conservation area.
The new bakery will occupy the Grade II listed former bank, bringing the vacant building back into use as a working bakery and café. The company says the 88 sq m site will seat up to 45 customers and create more than 16 year-round local jobs.
Cornish Bakery said the Wells site has been designed as a bespoke concept rather than a standard branch. The former banking hall has been refurbished with an industrial look, including stripped-back materials, polished concrete, steel, timber and lighting intended to sit alongside the building's listed features.
The company said original details, including the tall arched windows and decorative features, have been retained as part of the refurbishment. The former banking vault will also remain as a reminder of the building's previous use.
The bakery will sell Cornish Bakery's range of pasties, sausage rolls, viennoiseries, cakes, coffee and summer drinks. Seasonal items listed by the company include a Lemon Meringue Croissant, Chocolate, Banana and Peanut Butter Pastry, Orange and White Chocolate Chai Bun, iced coffees, matcha and handcrafted iced teas.
Cornish Bakery managing director Mat Finch said: "We are delighted to be opening our bespoke bakery in the beautiful city of Wells. This marks an exciting investment in the high street, transforming a stunning, recently vacant property into a contemporary bakery destination for both locals and visitors.
"Historic buildings like this deserve to remain active and enjoyed by the community, and we've worked hard to preserve the character of the former bank while giving it a completely new purpose. We're looking forward to welcoming customers into a distinctive space where exceptional food, expertly crafted Cornish-roasted coffee and thoughtful design come together, and to becoming part of the Wells community."
The company said the new team will also support the Wells community through a partnership with a local charity, which is due to be selected soon after opening.
