Officers advise community to report suspicious activity as burglars target car keys, money, and jewellery

Police in Wells have issued a warning to residents following an increase in house burglaries and attempted break-ins in recent weeks.

The burglars are reportedly targeting car keys, money, and jewellery, prompting local authorities to urge the community to stay alert and report any suspicious activity.

A police spokesperson said, "We are seeing a rise in house burglaries across Wells, and it's crucial that residents remain vigilant. If you notice anything suspicious, such as unfamiliar vehicles or people acting strangely in your area, please try to obtain vehicle registrations and descriptions and report them to us via 999, 101, or our online reporting system."

Police advise homeowners to take extra precautions, particularly at night. "We recommend that people avoid leaving their car keys in the door or on view. Taking them with you when you go to bed is a simple step that can help protect your home from being targeted," the spokesperson added.

Residents are encouraged to help one another by keeping an eye on their neighbours' properties and reporting any unusual activity to the authorities.

Anyone with any more information or concerns can call police on 101 or 999 in the event of an emergency.

Alternatively, witnesses can call independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
