Have your say on Wells’ future as city council launches priorities plan for 2025‑28

Wells City Council has revealed a new vision for the city—and wants locals to help shape it. A draft Corporate Priorities & Vision 2025–2028 has been published for public consultation, setting out the council's key goals for the next three years across finance, climate, services and tourism.
The plan outlines four big priorities: tightening financial controls and governance, cutting emissions and protecting green spaces, safeguarding vital services like youth and play provision, and boosting the local economy without sacrificing Wells' historic charm. It's being billed as a roadmap for a "sustainable, resilient and thriving heritage city".
Residents can now have their say via an online survey or printed forms available at locations across the city, including the Town Hall, Library and Portway Annexe. The council says it wants "honest, practical feedback"—from what people value most to what they're prepared to compromise on, including potential council tax rises or using public buildings for extra income.
The climate section pledges visible, local action on biodiversity and energy use, while the economic growth proposals aim to draw visitors all year round without "overwhelming the city's character". But with tight budgets and increasing demands, council leaders say clear choices must be made.
The consultation runs for several weeks, with final priorities expected to be approved later this year. Locals are being encouraged to get involved now before decisions are locked in.
