Wells Cathedral School is celebrating another impressive set of GCSE results, with nearly half of this year's pupils securing top grades and performance significantly above the national average. The success comes hot on the heels of their A-level results last week.

Just under 50% of all grades awarded were 9–7, with 15% at the very top grade of 9 — an increase on last year. Almost a third of pupils achieved grades 9–8, and more than 94% earned at least a grade 4, compared to the national average of 67.4%.

Strong results were recorded across the board, from the Sciences to the Arts. Chemistry saw half of pupils awarded a grade 9, with similar success in Biology and Physics, where 47% secured top marks. Computing pupils also impressed, with 77% achieving grades 9–7.

Other standout subjects included:

• 100% 9–6 in Biology, Chemistry and Physics
• 100% 9–5 in Computing, Drama, German, Music and Photography
• 100% 9–4 in Art and PE

Several pupils achieved exceptional individual results. Vienna earned a full set of nine grade 9s, including all three sciences, Art, Maths and Music. Clover, Poppy, Joshua and Bill also posted a string of top grades, and will continue their studies at Wells.

In keeping with the school's musical tradition, a cohort of specialist musicians took GCSE Music two years early — and all achieved grades 9–7.

Head Master Alastair Tighe said: "Their success is testimony not only to pupils' hard work and effort, but also to the skill and expertise of their teachers as well as the support of their parents and families. I'm delighted that pupils have achieved so highly across the full range of subjects we offer."

Deputy Head (Academic) Natalie Perry added: "These results reflect the academic ambition nurtured throughout the school. Every pupil has been supported to reach their full potential — and these outcomes speak for themselves."
