Wells Cathedral School’s class of 2025 achieves exceptional A-level success across the board

The pupils of Wells Cathedral School's Class of 2025 have achieved outstanding A‑level results, reflecting the dedication of students, staff, and families throughout their education. Across the curriculum—from the natural sciences to the humanities and creative arts—students delivered consistently strong outcomes.

In several key subjects, the school achieved perfect pass rates within top grade bands: 100 % of Music, Further Maths, English Literature and Extended Project Qualification pupils secured grades A*–C; Photography and Art pupils earned A*–B; and Drama, Computing achieved A–C or A–B, respectively. Maths saw 90 % of pupils attain A*–C, Physics 90 % at A–C, and Chemistry 89 % at A*–C. Overall, 83 % of candidates achieved A*–C, with over a third earning A*–A—scores notably above the national average.

Head Master Alastair Tighe said he is "extremely proud of the achievements of our departing Upper Sixth," praising the "individual hard work and determination" of students alongside support from staff and families. He also acknowledged pupils' success beyond academics, citing their involvement in Music, Sport, Drama, Dance, and Outdoor Learning, and wished them well for the future.

Head of Sixth Form, Sally Rowley, added that pupils "have not only excelled in their A levels but have also secured places in a huge range of prestigious institutions," including Oxford, Durham, UCL, Edinburgh, Cardiff, the Royal College of Music, and the Royal Academy of Music. Course choices vary widely—from Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Philosophy to Music and Fashion Journalism.

Particular highlights among student leaders include:

  • Camilia H (Head of School): A in French and Music, B in Biology; will study Human Sciences at University College London.
  • Oliver C (Head of School): A* in EPQ, B grades in Economics, Maths, and History; accepted to study Economics and Finance at University of Surrey.
  • Tabitha H (Deputy Head of School): A* A A; off to study English Language and Literature at St Peter's College, Oxford.
  • Key Heng C (Deputy Head of School): A* in Music Technology, A in Physics, B in Maths; to study as a Tonmeister at University of Surrey.

Other notable successes:

  • Archie B: A*AA in Music, Maths, Music Technology; accepted to study Music at Oxford alongside Tabitha.
  • Elizabeth M: A* A* A* in Music, Maths, Psychology; will study Bassoon at the Royal Academy of Music.
  • Kenyon C: A* in Chemistry and Maths, A in Physics and Music; heading to Imperial College London for Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry.
  • Tiger S: A, B, C in Geography, PE, and Biology; offered a place at Oxford Brookes University to study PE; also celebrated as cricket captain and member of the hockey and rugby first teams.
  • Jess D: A in Drama and a starring role as Rosalia in West Side Story before Christmas; will study English Literature at Newcastle University, having also achieved A* in Geography and B in English Literature.

Deputy Head Academic Natalie Perry praised the students' commitment and personalised support from teachers, noting that "their commitment to their studies… has enabled them to secure places at leading universities and pursue diverse, inspiring career paths."
